What buildclarity does
- Job Costing — Track estimated vs. actual on every job. Catch overruns before they kill your margin.
- Cash Flow Forecast — 13-week rolling cash position. Know when cash is tight before it happens.
- Overhead & Markup — Know your true cost of doing business. Price every job to recover overhead and hit your profit target.
- KPI Scorecard — Track gross margin, net margin, labor efficiency, and DSO — benchmarked against your industry.
- WIP Report — Track billing vs. earned value on every active job to prevent cash surprises, with AIA-style (G702/G703-format) pay application PDFs.
- What-If Planner — Model any scenario before you bid. Adjust revenue, labor, materials, and overhead.
- Bid Guardrails — Get warned when a bid doesn't recover your overhead and profit target.
- Decision Tools — Get a clear YES, NO, or WAIT on hiring, bidding, equipment, pricing, and more.
- AI Insights — Fractional controller intelligence: risks, opportunities, and recommended actions every week.
- Weekly Scorecard — Executive financial summary with trend history, delivered as a Monday-morning email digest.
How it works
- Connect your data (2 minutes) — Connect QuickBooks® Online directly for automatic sync, or export a CSV from Buildertrend, Sage 100/300/Intacct, Foundation, ComputerEase, CoConstruct, Procore, or any construction software.
- Map your columns (30 seconds) — The smart importer auto-detects column headers and pre-maps them.
- See your profitability (instant) — Which jobs make money, where costs run over, and your true overhead recovery — in one dashboard.
The real cost of not knowing
One unchecked labor overrun typically costs $8,000–$25,000. One underpriced job: $5,000–$15,000. One cash shortage: $2,000–$10,000. buildclarity costs $1,520/year on the annual plan — less than one missed labor overrun.
Case study: the cash was disappearing, the books didn't show why
A commercial painting contractor had steady work and a full schedule, but cash was always tight. After importing job cost and overhead data into buildclarity, the overhead recovery calculator put the required markup at 66.7% — and pricing fell well short of it. Insurance, vehicles, admin, management, and owner compensation were not fully built into pricing. The cash shortages were a pricing problem hiding in the overhead recovery rate.
Built by a CPA who works with contractors every day
buildclarity was built by Lena Hanna, CPA, EA, CIA — founder of LNH CPA PLLC, a CPA firm working exclusively with construction and trade contractors. It is built for general contractors, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, roofing, painting, concrete, and other trade contractors with revenue between $500K and $10M.

Frequently asked questions
What does buildclarity actually do?
buildclarity is a financial command center for construction and trade contractors. It tracks job profitability, cash flow, overhead recovery, labor efficiency, and markup — giving you CFO-level visibility without the complexity of accounting software. It is not bookkeeping, invoicing, or project management.
How much does it cost and what's included?
buildclarity is $149/month after a 7-day free trial. Your subscription includes up to 5 team members, all financial dashboards (jobs, cash flow, overhead, KPIs, WIP report, what-if scenarios), AI-powered insights, and the full calculator suite for job pricing and prevailing wage. No credit card is required to start the trial.
Do I need to connect QuickBooks or other software?
QuickBooks® Online sync is available and makes setup faster, but it is not required. You can enter job and financial data directly in buildclarity. The app is designed to work whether you use QuickBooks®, another accounting system, or nothing at all.
How does the QuickBooks connection work?
During our early access period, we personally set up every QuickBooks® connection for you — no IT required. Once you subscribe, just send us the email address on your QuickBooks® Online account and we will have it connected within 24 hours. This is part of our white-glove onboarding. You get a real CPA firm making sure your data flows correctly, not a generic setup wizard.
What if my software isn't listed?
If your construction software can export a CSV file, buildclarity can import it. Go to the Import page inside the app, download the sample CSV template, fill in your job data, and upload it in under 60 seconds. We support Buildertrend, Sage 100, Sage 300, Sage Intacct, Foundation, ComputerEase, Procore, and any software with a CSV export. If you are unsure, email us at contact@getbuildclarity.com and we will walk you through it.
Is this bookkeeping or accounting software?
No. buildclarity does not replace your bookkeeper or accountant. It reads your financial data and turns it into actionable insights — which jobs are profitable, where cash is going, whether your markup covers overhead, and where labor is running over. Think of it as the financial layer on top of your accounting system.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. There are no long-term contracts. You can cancel your subscription at any time from your billing settings and you will not be charged again. Your data remains accessible until the end of your current billing period.
What types of contractors is this built for?
buildclarity is built for general contractors, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, roofing, painting, concrete, and other trade contractors with revenue between $500K and $10M. If you run jobs, carry labor, and struggle to know whether you are actually making money — this was built for you.
How is this different from just using QuickBooks?
QuickBooks® tells you what happened. buildclarity tells you what it means. QuickBooks® shows transactions; buildclarity shows job-level gross margin, labor efficiency, overhead recovery rate, cash flow forecasts, and which jobs are at risk — in plain language, without needing an accountant to interpret it.
Who is LNH CPA PLLC and why are they behind this?
LNH CPA PLLC is a CPA firm that works exclusively with construction and trade contractors. buildclarity was built by their team because they kept seeing the same problem: contractors doing great work but losing money because they couldn't see their numbers clearly. The Advisory tab inside the app connects you directly with Lena and her team for monthly financial guidance.
What is a Profit Review Call and do I need one?
A Profit Review Call is a free 20-minute call with Lena at LNH CPA PLLC where she reviews your current financial situation, identifies your biggest profit leaks, and shows you how buildclarity would work for your specific business. It is not a sales call — it is a working session. Most contractors leave with at least one actionable insight they can use immediately.
How long does it take to get set up?
Most contractors are up and running within 30 minutes. You can connect QuickBooks® Online to pull in historical data, or enter your first job manually in under 5 minutes. There is no complex onboarding, no data migration, and no IT support required. The app is designed to be used by the owner, not a bookkeeper.
Does buildclarity work for subcontractors?
Yes. buildclarity is built for any contractor who runs jobs, carries labor, and needs to understand profitability at the job level. Whether you are a GC, a specialty subcontractor, or a trade contractor doing residential or commercial work, the core financial tools — job costing, cash flow, overhead recovery, and markup — apply directly to your business.
What happens to my data if I cancel?
Your data is yours. If you cancel, you have 30 days to export your job history, cash flow records, and financial data in CSV format before your account is closed. We do not delete your data immediately upon cancellation, and we will never sell it.
Is there a contract or minimum commitment?
No contracts, no minimums. buildclarity is month-to-month. You can cancel anytime from your billing settings and you will not be charged again after cancellation. The 7-day free trial requires no credit card.
Is my financial data secure? What about data imported from QuickBooks?
Yes — your data is protected at every layer. Here is exactly how: (1) Encryption in transit: all data between your browser and buildclarity servers is encrypted using TLS 1.2+, the same standard used by banks and financial institutions. (2) Encryption at rest: your financial data is stored in an enterprise-grade cloud database with encryption at rest enabled by default. (3) Read-only QuickBooks® access: when you connect QuickBooks® Online, buildclarity requests read-only OAuth access. We can pull your financial data in — we cannot create, modify, or delete anything in your QuickBooks® account. Your data is never stored in plain text. (4) No credential storage: we never store your QuickBooks® username or password. The connection uses OAuth 2.0 tokens issued directly by Intuit, the same secure authorization method used by major financial apps. (5) Session security: your login session uses an httpOnly, secure, signed cookie — meaning it cannot be accessed by browser scripts and is protected against common web attacks. (6) HTTP security headers: the app enforces strict Content-Security-Policy, X-Frame-Options, and X-Content-Type-Options headers to prevent clickjacking, cross-site scripting, and MIME sniffing attacks. (7) Rate limiting: all public endpoints are rate-limited to block brute-force and automated abuse attempts. (8) Your data is never sold: buildclarity does not sell, share, or monetize your financial data. It is used solely to power your dashboard. You can export and delete your data at any time. If you have specific security questions, email contact@getbuildclarity.com.
